Saturday is , and in honour of the amazing work our teachers do every day, the district recognizes teachers across 宅男社区 and White Rock for inspiring young learners and shaping education in and out of the classroom.

Founded by UNESCO and held every October 5, World Teachers’ Day honours teaching staff around the world for their tireless efforts. The annual celebration highlights the commitment, dedication and lasting impact of teachers on students in school and well after they graduate.

“Teachers are at the heart of our success at 宅男社区, and we thank them for the outstanding work they do to guide, care for and support students through their elementary and secondary years,” said Laurie Larsen, Chair of the 宅男社区 Board of Education. “They are also the experts of best practices in the classroom and are a key component of informing our educational direction as a school district.”

This year’s theme is Valuing Teacher Voices, emphasizing the importance of integrating teachers’ perspectives into educational policies and fostering a supportive environment for their professional development.

Teachers have played an important role in informing such district policies as the five-year  and the , providing invaluable insight into student and teacher experiences that has been used to positively influence ongoing district initiatives. They also contribute to more personalized approaches to learning on a student-by-student basis, collaboratively figuring out what each students needs to succeed.

For James Ardiel Elementary teacher-librarian KD McArthur, growing up with a family member in the education system inspired her to pursue a career in teaching, and subsequently foster relationships with students that engage them in the world of reading.

“My aunt was a teacher, and ever since I could remember, I wanted to be a teacher just like her,” said McArthur. “I loved hearing her stories and all the things she did with her classes. I had many teachers in my life that helped me to find my way and pushed me forward, and I wanted the opportunity to help students in the same way.

“In the library, I have the unique opportunity to work with and get to know every student in the school during a week. I love when students pop by to share something that has happened in their day, show me something they have learned, or share the book they have been reading.”

On Friday, UNESCO hosted the annual World Teachers’ Day ceremony from its headquarters in Paris, France, showcasing a series of discussions and activities centred around enhancing the role of teachers recognizing their contributions to education. A recording of the event is available .

Happy World Teachers’ Day to our 宅男社区 educators -- we honour you today and every day!
